The building is nicknamed ‘The Hangar’ by fans of the Slough Jets ice hockey team, which is based at the arena and makes use of the new ice pad, spectator seating, lighting and refurbished changing facilities.

Slough Ice Arena was originally constructed in the mid 1980’s as the home of the Slough Jets ice hockey team. With a spectator capacity of 1000 people, the building provided ice skating facilities for the local community, changing facilities, a small diner and an amusement arcade.
The retrofit and extension project was commissioned to contribute towards the Slough Joint Well-being Strategy, with an aim to enhance the health and well-being of the residents in the area.
The extended Ice Arena’s structure features three wooden glulam beam arches, each of which weighs three tonnes and stands at 30 metres wide and 12 metres high. Works also included a two-storey canopy extension that houses a new entrance, reception, café, gym, climbing wall and clip n' climb facility.
A re-clad of the building has improved its external appearance, whilst extensive landscaping and public realm works transformed the space outside the arena, creating a strong visual link to the adjacent Bath Road and Salt Hill Park.
