The expansive site has significant topographical challenges with two major hills and cliffs being bisected by a valley and major stream which acts as a key rainfall drainage channel to the sea. Our civil engineering team developed environmentally sensitive flood drainage solutions for the site linked to coastal protection systems including offshore breakwaters and beach recharging.

The structural concept design explored innovative methods of construction including the use of pre fabricated cross laminated timber walls and floors for the main hotel rooms. Other key areas were developed using reinforced concrete frames but utilising cement replacements to reduce the embodied carbon of the construction. Extreme design considerations included seismic and hurricane loading.
