Revitalising London’s oldest public park into a tranquil green retreat.

Following completion of the Crossrail works the project sought to transform Finsbury Circus Gardens through vast landscape improvements and the installation of a Parks Office.

Engenuiti worked with the competition-winning architect, and the rest of the project team to develop design options, assess their relative merits including whole life embodied carbon, and resolve the complex relationship between the new building and infrastructure tunnels that cross beneath the Circus. The new Parks Office is constructed from timber, with visually exposed reclaimed timber roof joists to further reduce the embodied carbon of the structure while creating a natural environment in the interior.

Sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) were incorporated into the design, including green roofing for the Parks Office and planted rain gardens within the soft landscaping. Close collaboration with the Landscape Architect ensured the planting and engineering aspects were efficiently designed resulting in a sympathetic and robust solution that will stand the test of time.
