Our thinking
Study Trip to CAT
Over the past 12 years we have had some amazing study trips to European cities to learn more about urban development and advances In design and engineering.
This year we thought we would do something slightly different and as a Practice we travelled to the Centre for Alternative Technology in mid Wales to learn more about sustainable build technologies.
It was a great opportunity to get hands on experience with rammed earth and straw bale construction and thankfully what we helped build did stand up!
We are tempted to find a plot and put our new skills into action.... watch this space
We explored the use of low carbon alternatives to concrete and other commonly used building materials in a tour of CAT’s unique collection of sustainable buildings.
We successfully built a rammed earth wall using traditional techniques.
We were introduced to straw as a building material and helped to construct a simple wall structure.
